Follow up on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendations 2018

Follow up on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendations 2018 project was implemented over 5.5 months (1 October 2021 – 15 March 2022) in partnership with the Swedish Development Partner I.M. The project aimed to follow up on Jordan’s commitments to the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) 2018 recommendations. Through the implementation of this project, CDFJ contributed to increasing dialogue and discussions between CSOs, government and national institution about Jordan’s commitments to the UPR recommendations, where the country is standing after more than 2 years of accepting the recommendations, and what are the next steps that should be taken by all stakeholders before the 4th cycle in 2023.

The project was implemented with the aim of achieving 2 specific objectives:

  1. Increase coordination between government, national institutions and civil society organizations to work together on supporting the government to implement 2018 UPR recommendations.
  2. Increase public knowledge about Jordan’s UPR recommendations, and influence duty-bearers to fulfil their duties.

A number of activities were implemented through this project including a 1-day forum that gathered relevant stakeholders including CSOs, national institutions, government, media, international NGOs and foreign embassies that discussed where Jordan is standing towards its commitments to the UPR 2018 recommendations, an Observatory Platform that includes all UPR recommendations has been created on CDFJ’s website to monitor Jordan’s commitments to the recommendations of the UPR, and is functioning as a source of information in order to keep the stakeholders, actors, and the public abreast of the implementation status of the recommendations Jordan has accepted, and online advocacy campaign was implemented by CDFJ in coordination with stakeholders, which aimed to support human rights and increase awareness about the UPR recommendations, and finally, a report has been developed on Jordan’s implementation of the UPR recommendations 2018 in its third cycle.
